ABOUT
Janet Waring was born in Leicester, UK. The more formal aspects of her artistic education were adopted as a result of spending a decade of practise in Florence, Italy. Before moving to Italy she had completed a BSc hons in botany from the University of Manchester, UK and a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education from Leicester University. These early disciplines and interests continue to be reflected in her work and in 2009 she was elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society (Burlington House, London); the world's oldest extant natural history society.
Janet Waring has gained recognition in both public and private galleries, in UK and abroad including Italy, Germany and USA with work in numerous collections. She has had solo exhibitions in important public galleries including Leicester City Art Gallery, Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery, Cooper Gallery and The British Institute, Florence. Since 1999 her Oddbirds have been published by Modernart Editions, New York. She has received a number of awards including from Arts Council England and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Arts Service.
Her studio is a former chapel within the expansive and contemplative landscape of the rural East Midlands.
